Summary update Teamsters Skilled Trades bargaining for Thursday, October 23rd and Friday, October 24th .
1 Bargaining Meeting October 23rd – 24th Update:
The Teamsters and UCSD passed proposals on Article 2 Out of Classification Work, Article 7 Positions and Appointments, Article 9 Overtime, Article 11 Promotions/Transfers, Article 19 Unit Work, Article 21 Grievance Procedure, Article 24 Joint Health and Safety Committee, Article 32 Union Stewards.
2 Teamsters and UCSD Management reached a (TA) Tentative Agreement on 5 of the exchanged Articles:
Article 7 Positions and Appointments. Added clarifying language that qualifying service hours is for K6 Unit work only.
Article 11 Promotions/Transfers. (CCL) Current Contract Language. There was no change to this Article.
Article 21 Grievance Procedure. (CCL) Current Contract Language. There was no change to this Article.
Article 24 Joint Health and Safety Committee. Teamsters negotiated an increase of Joint Health and Safety Committee bargaining unit members from a total of (4) to a total of (7). Health side will have one designated bargaining unit member from each department Thorton, Hillcrest, Construction Planning and Development, East Campus. Campus side will have one designated bargaining unit member from Facilities Management, Utilities and Sustainability and Housing.
Article 32 Union Stewards. Language change to recognize one Chief Steward on the Health side and one Chief Steward on the campus side. Teamsters negotiated increasing the total stewards from (8) stewards to (10 )stewards. (5) steward positions will be for the health side and (5) steward positions will be for the campus side.
3 Articles Passed to UCSD. Teamsters waiting on management response.
Article 2 Out of Classification Work. Teamsters propose to shorten days worked out of classification to receive high classification pay. Currently skilled trades can be asked to work 15-days before receiving out of classification pay. Teamsters proposed a 90-day deadline for UCSD to issue a response to an employee’s submission of an out of classification review. Currently there is no deadline.
Article 9 Overtime. Teamsters propose to have sick leave count for the calculation of overtime. Teamsters proposing language for employees to control when they wish to receive CTO or wages for working overtime. Teamsters proposing to increase the accumulation of CTO for all employees including Watch Standers.
Article 19 Unit Work. Teamster are proposing to keep the current contract language. This language limits management or outside contractors from performing bargaining unit work to emergency situations only.
SPECIAL NOTE: All (TA) Tentative Agreements made between UCSD Management, and your Bargaining Team must be ratified by a majority vote of Teamsters K6-Unit Skilled Trades members during the Ratification Vote at the conclusion of bargaining.
