UC to Observe Juneteenth Holiday Monday, June 28

Teamsters joined labor, community, and other allies in calling for the creation of a federal holiday commemorating Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a day of reflection and marks the end of slavery in the United States more than 156 years ago.

The University of California notified Teamsters that Juneteenth will be added to the University of California’s calendar of holidays. In 2021 only, the UC will observe this holiday on Monday, June 28th. Starting in 2022, the UC will celebrate the Juneteenth holiday according to the federal holiday calendar. This means that Teamsters will either get Monday, June 28 off or holiday pay or time off at a later date.

Beginning in 2022, the UC will celebrate the holiday according to the federal calendar.
