Teamsters Win Historic Tentative Agreement With Return of Steps, Significant Guaranteed Raises and Protection of Rights!

Teamsters Local 2010 will NOT be on strike next week!

Our Teamsters Unit 6 Bargaining Team after winning our historic new contract.

After a multi-year battle for step increases, more than a year of tough negotiations with California State University, countless member actions and two separate strikes across the state, and with a five-day strike looming next week, our demonstrations of Union power have paid off! Our Teamsters Bargaining Team has won a historic Tentative Agreement (TA) with CSU that includes significant guaranteed raises each year of the contract, the return of a salary step system, and every member reaching their target step during the life of the contract!

We also protected important rights including our pension and medical benefits, emergency pay language, and language protecting our work from contracting out.

“We achieved this historic agreement by standing together as Teamsters – and in solidarity with our sister Unions at CSU – to take powerful action like CSU has never seen before,” said Jason Rabinowitz, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 2010. “Our work makes CSU work, and we showed CSU that when they are unfair to us, we are willing and able to conduct effective strikes that shut the University down.

“We are very proud of the incredible strength and resolve that our members demonstrated through this fight, and congratulate every CSU Teamster on our hard-fought victory!”

As a result of this agreement, Teamsters will not be on strike at CSU next week.

Highlights of our win:

  • Immediate 5% General Salary Increase retroactive to July 1, 2023
  • Establishment of Salary Step System for first time in decades, with step placement Oct. 2024.
  • Every member receives a minimum two-step increase in October 2024
  • 84% of members reach target salary step by October 2024
  • All members reach target salary step by July 2025
  • Step increases not contingent on satisfactory evaluation
  • Pension and medical benefits maintained
  • Emergency Pay saved
  • Contracting Out protections saved
  • October 2024 increases not contingent on state budget increase

In the coming days, we will provide members with all the details regarding the Tentative Agreement, and the schedule for the ratification vote by email and on our website, www.teamsters2010.org/fight.

We will conduct a member Zoom meeting this Sunday at 11 a.m. You may register for the meeting at this link:

“In the face of CSU’s unfair practices, lowball offers and stalling tactics, we harnessed the full power of workers by joining together as Teamsters, and with 60,000 of our fellow CSU Union members in this fight—and we won!” said Chris Rooney, Teamsters Bargaining Team member and Metalworker II at CSU Northridge.

“I’ve been fighting for steps since 2009. They told us we’d never get them back, but we showed our tenacity and persistence, we fought like hell as a Union, and we got the steps restored!” said Drew Scott, Teamsters Local 2010 Skilled Trades Director and Facilities Control Specialist at Fresno State.

To be abundantly clear: Teamsters will not be on strike Jan. 22-26, 2024, and all CSU Teamsters should report to work as regularly scheduled by management, except for approved vacation, medical or other leaves.

If California Faculty Association is on strike next week, Teamsters Local 2010 may not engage in a sympathy strike. However, workers have the right to honor the picket line based on their individual conscience. Members are encouraged to join and support CFA’s pickets and rallies during non-work time, such as before and after work, during breaks, or on approved leave.

Congratulations to all members on this historic victory!
